GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet SAPS offices on Middle Street, as well as the nearby detective office, were closed again on 28 June after a detective and general worker tested positive for Covid-19.
The detective branch and police office will perform duties from the Barney Eysell Hall, at the back of the Middle Street offices.
The directions to the temporary community service centre are Middle Street - turn into Paul Kruger Street and again right to the entrance of the temporary community service in Sarel Cilliers Street.
Colonel Sibongile Soci, Provincial Commander for Media Communication on Monday confirmed that Graaff Reinet SAPS has been temporarily closed for decontamination.
Soci said the closing of the station is in line with the government's guidelines to manage and control the spread of Covid-19.
"We urge the community to be patient with us and can assure them that there are contingency plans in place to ensure that policing in their communities continues during these difficult times."
Whenever there is a member who tests positive for Covid-19, all health protocols are followed while the affected members get quarantined or isolated accordingly.
The management of SAPS in the province provisionally close the stations so that the facility can be decontaminated. All these processes are done through the advice and guidance of the Department of Health officials.
Primary and secondary contacts of the positive members are also tested and are back at work after they received their results. Those who are still awaiting results are kept in self-isolation pending the outcome of their results.
"The provincial management of the South African police service in the Eastern Cape would like to inform the public that all the necessary steps are in place to ensure that all the stations within the province have contingency plans whenever a Covid-19 infection has been detected," said Soci
Contingency plans kick in immediately after a case has been detected to ensure service delivery is not compromised.
The Eastern Cape police management would like to express their gratitude to the stakeholders who continue to open their doors and allow the police to utilise their facilities as temporary police stations.
The previous contact details are not working, but the station can be reached at the following numbers: 049 807 1180 or 082 779 7131.
