NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — The winter solstice was enjoyed by many at the Karoo Lamb’s annual Midwinter Party last week.
While the evening was not as cold as the ones that followed, the generous hospitality of Ian and Katrin, along with live music by the Vagabond King warmed the cockles of the heart, and the Karoo Lamb Restaurant was filled to the brim with warmly dressed revellers.
This year villagers were joined by a delegation of more than 30 owners and staff in the tourism industry, who attended a combined meeting of the Eastern Cape and Garden Route branches of the SA Youth and Travel Confederation, hosted by the Owlhouse Backpackers the following day.
Excellent Blues guitar and vocals made for entertaining listening while the nest of potjies bubbled to perfection under Ian’s careful eye outside.
When supper was ready, guests enjoyed complimentary potjies ranging from offal to roast lamb, hartebeest, chicken and even a delicious banana curry. The party went on into the early hours of the morning with dancing and red wine keeping guests warm as they celebrated the longest night of the year.
