NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS - A total of 54 residents registered for vaccinations in Nieu Bethesda on 19 August during the UNICEF truck activation. A significant number of these were administered to men.
Nieu-Bethesda has proven to be one of the areas that desperately needed this sort of intervention. The residents have been hesitant about the vaccinations, but the education during this session opened their eyes.
Assistant Director: Health Promotion in the Camdeboo sub-district Khanyisa Rubushe said this was an impressive turnout and they appreciated the communities' changed attitudes towards the vaccine.
"The pop-up vaccination site attracted the resident. They claim it made them more enthusiastic about vaccinating even though the clinic is accessible in this area. The residents admitted that this sort of intervention is what they needed to convince them."
Part of this activation included a visit to the Lettie de Klerk Primary School in Nieu-Bethesda. Speaking to the learners, Zandile Joseph from the Department of Health pleaded with them to advocate for the vaccination in their homes. "If your parents vaccinate, it means they are protecting you," he said.
