KAROO NEWS - People who provide information that will lead to the conviction of perpetrators who continue to steal and vandalise municipal infrastructure will now receive a reward from the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality.
The announcement was made by the mayor, Willem Safers, who said the municipal council has made a decision to issue a reward in such instances.
“Despite improvements and attempts made to secure interrupted supply of water, the municipality is still facing a challenge of theft and vandalism of infrastructure,” said Safers.
“In some cases, we find that criminal elements continue to sabotage our services by punching holes into the supply networks to residents. The theft of electrical cables and extended hours of load shedding also have a negative effect on the supply of water, as most of our pumps are powered by electricity.”
The municipality urges residents to guard municipal infrastructure as some of these acts of criminality affect thousands of residents at the same time.
Residents are encouraged to report incidents of crime to the police or inform the municipal communications officer on 072 982 4081, should they have any information that could assist in the reduction of theft and vandalism.
