GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Four-footed friend Dobby from Graaff-Reinet had no easy start in life but is sure to live a life filled with love and happiness now that he's found a caring home with local nurse Lauren Coetzee.
"He saved me as much as I saved him," said Coetzee, who moved to Graaff-Reinet from Cape Town at the beginning of the year, and wanted a companion.
Dobby, named after a character with long ears in the Harry Potter books and films, was sadly placed in a rubbish bag in February, when he was a young pup, and thrown off a bridge. According to Coetzee, the local SPCA managed to dislodge Dobby from a drain, and his paw was badly injured.
"I saw the post on Facebook and fell in love with him," Coetzee explained. The two met, and Dobby put his head on her shoulders and wrapped his paws around her neck. "It was like he was giving me a hug."
"He saved me as much as I saved him," says happy dog mom Lauren Coetzee about Dobby.
When Coetzee took Dobby home for the first time, the scared pup hid behind the TV cabinet. "But when I fed him, he devoured the food, and we started building trust from there."
Coetzee explained that the Dobby is still scared of heights, like jumping off a high bed. He also struggles with separation anxiety, which is why the two are joined at the hip.
It's been three months since his rescue, and Dobby is otherwise a happy dog that enjoys playtime and mischief. "He's a bundle of energy, and loves eating socks," Coetzee said. "He is the light of my life."
