GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A case of rape has been opened after a 35-year-old woman alleged that her boyfriend forced her to have intercourse against her will many times over an eight day period earlier this month.
According to the woman, she was at her boyfriend’s home, and they were drinking together. She claims that when he wanted to have intercourse and she refused, he started to assault her and forced her to have intercourse. This continued until 8 February.
Stock theft was reported after a 36-year-old man living on a farm on Portlock Road, near Graaff-Reinet, saw people herding sheep away from his property. The incident happened at 09:00 on 2 February. The farmer, who reported a loss of R8 000, was able to apprehend the suspects.
The other crimes reported were all related to property.
There were two residential burglaries, and one case of theft from a motor vehicle.
The first burglary occurred sometime between 09:00 on 7 February and 11:00 on 10 February. The 71 year old householder found that roof tiles on his house in Lombard Street had been forced open, and a Samsung laptop and a kettle were taken. The combined value is R25 000.
The second burglary, in Bourke Street, happened on 11 February, between 14:15 and 15:30. According to the complainant, a security gate on his house was forced open and a Canon camera and cash were taken, with a total value of R21 300.
The 35-year-old male complainant in the motor vehicle case alleges that he parked his car in Springbok Street, Kroonvale, at 14:30 on 9 February, and locked the vehicle.
At 09:30 the next morning, when he went to his vehicle, he found the battery had been removed from the engine compartment.
