NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS — This year’s Pump Palooza held this past weekend in Nieu-Bethesda was a great success with about 500 people arriving in the village to view or compete in the competition.
Villagers provided guests with a variety of food stalls, great food, san dancing, mellow music and craft stalls.
The first prize for the heaviest pumpkin was won by the ‘Tot hiertoe Padstal’ with a pumpkin weighing 277kg, winning wonderful prized sponsored by Blue Magnolia (R1 000), Grassies Staal (braaier) and Fourie's Vervoer (R500).
The second prize was also awarded to ‘Tot hiertoe Padstal’ with pumpkin weighing 220kg.
The third biggest pumpkin was grown by Andrew Schoeman Junior with his pumpkin weighing 216 kg.
JP and Louis Steynberg won the category for ‘a half a dozen heavies’ with a combined weight of 565kg
The organisers are very grateful for the tremendous support shown to Nieu Bethesda by businesses and individuals from Graaff-Reinet, Middelburg and Nieu-Bethesda and would like to thank:

The Pump Palooza was an excellent example of Nieu-Bethesda working together to create a fun-filled community event and the organizers wish to thank all visitors, stall keepers, organisers and helpers who made the day remarkable.
The homes for the aged in the district are the benefactors for this unusual and entertaining event.
A dance group entertained the crowd at the recent Pump Palooza.
