GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — DA councillor for Ward 2, Linda Botha, was delighted to be able to report back to residents last month that the little children’s park on the corner of Cradock and West Street has finally been weeded and cleaned by the municipality.
Lionel de la Harpe made two members of his staff available to fix the fence and repair the one swing in the park. All that is now needed is a rubbish bin! Cllr Botha also appealed last month for help from anyone who might be prepared to volunteer to paint the little tractor in nice bright colours for the children, and her request was granted when a sponsor (who does not want to be named) gave a generous donation of paint.
DA activists got to work, and now the transformation of the tractor is complete. Cllr Botha and other residents are thrilled to see that children are now playing in the park again thanks to the new coat of paint on the tractor.
A resident who has lived on that street since 1992 reminisced on a post on Facebook, which showed photos of the transformation: “My grandchildren loved to drive the tractor. The gears could change and there were all kinds of pedals and bits and pieces. I saw it being plundered, the swings stolen and the place littered. The fence was stolen. What a pity. The tractor is looking nice and colourful now”.
The project to upgrade the park is far from finished, and the next item on the wishlist is a donation for grass. If anyone is prepared to help, they should contact Cllr Botha on 082 930 5756.
