GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Graaff Reinet Police detectives are investigating a culpable homicide case following the death of a 51-year-old man yesterday, 19 December, in an accident on the N9 about 37km outside Graaff Reinet, towards Middelburg.
According to Col Priscilla Naidu, spokesperson for the police in the Sarah Baarman District, it is alleged that the deceased was the driver of a VW Polo which carried five passengers.
The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle veered off the road.
The vehicle capsised, ejecting the driver. The driver sustained serious head injuries and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. Three of the five passengers were conveyed to hospital for medical treatment. The other two did not sustain any injuries.
The Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Maj Gen Zolani Xawuka, cautions motorists to adhere to the rules of the road, be considerate to fellow travellers. "Don't Drink and Drive, Arrive Alive,” he cautioned.
