GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Exasperated Nqweba Secondary School parents protested outside the offices of the Department of Education in Graaff-Reinet on Wednesday 21 February, to demand the suspension of a teacher who allegedly made herself guilty of gross misconduct.
According to Anele Ngoyo, chairperson of the Graaff-Reinet Community Police Forum, who was present at this protest, the teacher in question threatened one of the learners with a knife on Friday 9 February.
Ngoyo says parents demanded that the teacher be suspended pending the investigation into the matter, but she continued to report for duty.
The matter was discussed in a parents' meeting on Tuesday 20 February where they decided to demand a resolution from the Department of Education. The parents emphasised that all communication should be directed to the principal or to the chairperson/secretary of the school governing board (SGB) and not to the former principal.
The Advertiser has contacted the Department of Education and SGB and will report on findings as the story progresses.
