GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Nqweba Secondary School will soon receive an official letter from Parliament congratulating them on their excellent 2022 matric results and wishing them continued success.
This follows after a motion by DA MP and Dr Beyers Naudé Constituency Leader, Samantha Graham-Maré, was agreed to on 14 March.
On behalf of the DA, Graham-Maré moved National Assembly to note that Nqweba Secondary School was opened in January 1982 to address the growing educational needs of the isiXhosa population in uMasizakhe.
She further moved National Assembly to remember that Matthew Goniwe of the Cradock Four headed up the mathematics and science department from 1981 to 1983.
Graham-Maré also moved National Assembly to:
- acknowledge that the school, through partnerships between the learners, educators, and parents, managed to raise its National Senior Certificate (NSC) pass rate from 52,3% in 2021 to 82,9% in 2022,
- recognise that 87 out of the 105 Grade 12 learners who wrote the NSC exams in 2022 passed, and that Anathi Masimini was the school's top learner with 4 distinctions followed by Azola Boloda who achieved 3 distinctions,
- acknowledge that Mr Badian Daniels developed and ran four intervention programmes during school holidays when learners stayed in the hostel and attended extra classes to prepare for the NSC exams,
- congratulate retired principal Zolile Malotana and his team of educators on this excellent result and wish principal Zanovuyo Mdingi, his team of educators, and the learners of the school continued success.
The motion was agreed to by National Assembly.
"I am so incredibly proud of Nqweba Secondary School and their commitment to their learners. It was a great honour to submit this motion to Parliament," says Graham-Maré.
