GRAAFF-REINET NEWS — Residents and councillors gathered to clean the area around the Nqweba Dam recently.
The intention of this clean-up campaign held on Saturday, January 27, was to keep this popular recreational area beautiful and encourage residents to be proactive in cleaning their areas.
Hestie van der Mescht spearheaded the campaign with the support of local councillor Linda Botha.
The volunteers collected close to 50 bags of refuse from the embankment alongside the dam.
“We ask Graaff-Reinet residents to act and motivate others to join us in our attempt to keep our town and its surrounds superb,” said Van der Mescht.
“It’s important that we, as a community, clean the environment because litter is everywhere. We need to encourage others to join us in participating in clean-up campaigns,” said councillor Botha.
