KAROO NEWS - The funeral service of former head-master, Patrick Mzimasi Norman, who breathed new life into the once closed Adendorp Primary School, took place with solemn dignity last Saturday, 19 August.
Norman, who died at the age of 67 on 4 August, was the leader who rejuvenated the Adendorp Primary School in 1995.
Back in 1995, joined by only three teachers and boundless determination, he rallied the support of sponsors to fund the school's transformation. His efforts extended to the communities of Masizakhe, Kroonvale, and Asherville.
Norman's impact reached beyond the classroom – he generated employment opportunities for struggling educators, contributing to an increase in both student enrolment and faculty positions.
A multi-tasking maestro, Norman's role as headmaster extended beyond administrative duties. He took on the mantle of rugby and athletics coach, and organised transport for students to and from school.
He embarked on his educational journey at the Teachers' Training Course at Lovedale, Alice, between 1978 and 1979.
Starting his teaching career at Ntlama Higher Primary School in 1980, his life intertwined with that of Thoniswa Millicent Sonkosi, whom he married in 1983.
They had seven children. Moving to Graaff-Reinet in 1985, he joined Isibane Primary School. His educational journey saw him assume various roles, from assisting a school in Murraysburg in 1986 to being appointed headmaster at Clovers Farm School near Cradock from 1987 to 1989. In 1995, he embarked on his journey at Adendorp Primary School until 1997.
From 1998 to 2000, he worked at Metropolitan and earned the Best Salesman Award. From 2003 to 2021, he dedicated himself to Adult Basic Education and Training as a practitioner. He leaves behind his wife, two daughters, and six grandchildren.
