ABERDEEN NEWS — The highly anticipated Usave store in Aberdeen is taking shape, and this week shopfitters have arrived to put in shelving, freezers and fridges.
The Advertiser was able to take a sneak peak inside on Monday, and can report that there will be three long aisles for grocers, a large bank of freezer units in the centre for frozen meat, vegetables, ice cream and other frozen goods, as well as a large chilled section for fruit and vegetables and dairy products. There will also be a money-market counter near the office area, on the left of the store.
What is missing from the store is a box for aspiring staff to drop off their CVs. Jaap Genis, the regional manager for Usave in the Eastern Cape, had previously promised that there would be a box at the store for those wishing to apply for work to leave their details, but there is no facility for this. Instead, applicants have to go to Graaff-Reinet, where there is a box in Shoprite, near the manager’s office.
Many are unhappy about this, and feel that Aberdeen residents should not have to travel to Graaff-Reinet to apply for a job in Aberdeen!
Genis was unaware of this, and when informed last week, promised to arrange for a box at the store - however, at the time of going to press, this has not been done. Genis also explained that unfortunately, many people will be disappointed, as there will only actually be about 12 to 14 positions available. Two managers, from other Usave stores, have already been appointed.
The new store will be open from 8amm to 18:00 from Monday to Friday, from 18:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays, and 08:00 till 13:00 on Sundays. The latest estimate for the grand opening is mid-September, as unforeseen delays have pushed back the original date of September 1.
