New editor wins big at Group Editors Awards

GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Graaff-Reinet Advertiser team was happy upon their return home from the Group Editors Awards in Wilderness last weekend, as editor Paula-Ann Smit was named Best Online Contributor of the Year.

Journalists and editors cannot enter for this coveted award, but are recognised and nominated for their work by the Group Editors' digital team. This team had the daunting task of choosing a winner out of eight newspapers, which include the George Herald, Oudtshoorn Courant and Knysna-Plett Herald.

"It was a big surprise," said Smit, who started at the Advertiser six months ago. "Thank you to our loyal readers, especially for embracing all our online platforms. This would not be possible without you."

Smit's regular column, Hart van die Karoo (Heart of the Karoo), received third place in the Column of the Year category. An advertisement designed by Lisa Oudejans, for Kamdeboo Supermeat and Trading Post in Graaff-Reinet, was named runner up in the Ad of the Year category.
