GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The newly created Camdeboo Development Forum is an independent community forum established after a community meeting with Dr Braam Hanekom in August.
During consultation with residents and ratepayers of Graaff-Reinet and Aberdeen, the need for a forum to address local government issues was identified.
The forum envisions stimulating communication, public participation and economic development in the Dr Beyers Naudé area. It also strives to attract experienced or appropriately qualified civil society representatives who aim to work toward the achievement of good governance, service excellence, and economic growth.
Forum's mission
- unite all communities within the Dr Beyers Naudé municipal area under the umbrella of a new community-based organisation.
- address poverty and economic imbalances through improved infrastructure, good governance, and effective service delivery, thereby making towns attractive destinations for investors, tourists and residents alike.
- ensure that the elected local representatives answer to the people and govern in the interest and benefit of communities in the area
- assist in ensuring that the administration of the municipality is composed of qualified, competent, honest, and reliable officials who are appointed and promoted lawfully and on merit.
The forum subscribes to the principle of custodianship of the unique natural, cultural, and heritage assets of the towns in Dr Beyers Naudé and strives to protect these assets.
The forum is not aligned or answerable to any political party at a local, provincial, or national level and will not register as a political party to participate in local government elections.
Membership is open to all residents, ratepayers, and community organisations in the area provided that he/she is at least 16 years of age and a citizen or permanent resident of South Africa. Those who would like to obtain membership, must apply in writing on the prescribed application form or attend the Forum's Annual General Meeting.
Payment of a prescribed membership fee is applicable.
