FOOTBALL NEWS - Birds United FC pulled off a good victory against Portugal Birds in a football game at the Nedbank Cup knock-out tournament, which took place at Masizakhe Stadium last weekend.
The final score was 3-1 in favour of Birds United. Football enthusiasts once again flocked to the stadium as the leagues kicked off this month.
Teams have been preparing diligently to secure their positions in the league. Some are still working on registering players and obtaining clearance letters from their previous clubs before they can switch to a new team.
This season, each club participating in leagues is required to include at least five new players under the age of 21 in their squad. Birds United, who finished fourth in the previous season's standings, and Portugal Birds, who claimed the second spot, have expressed their readiness to lead the pack this season.
Birds United made a strong start by facing off against the new club, JV Shooting Stars from Jansenville, and securing a resounding 7-1 victory.
Shastri Prince of Birds United currently leads as the top goal scorer, having scored a remarkable six goals.
Following closely are Remarion Lottering with four goals and Jade Mdudumane with two. A "no card no play" rule was enforced throughout the weekend games. Any team without valid player cards was disqualified from participating in the matches.
