KAROO NEWS & VIDEO - The non-governmental organisation, Muslim World League, recently donated R75 000 to emerging farmers in the Eastern Cape.
Deputy Speaker of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature, Mlibo Qoboshiyane, was tasked to drive the donation, as well as safety equipment to the Midland Hospital personnel, and 514 food parcels to people in need.
Under supervision of Qoboshiyane's JOC sub-committee, in the Eastern Cape Legislature, 15 emerging farmers within the Beyers Naudé district received a R5 000 relief donation. Six municipal wards were identified by the JOC and the Muslim World League as beneficiaries for the 514 food hampers. These wards are 3-7 and 14.
Tabisa Bodoza, project manager and secretary to Sheik Walid El Saadi, adviser for African Affairs for the Muslim World League, said they are supporting farmers and helping humanity in this difficult time of Covid-19.

Bodoza said communities cannot live without agriculture. The food parcels were taken to central venues, from where it was distributed to the beneficiaries.
One of the emerging farmers, Daantjie Japhta, said he hopes that things will now be better.
Eunice Kekana, executive mayor for the Sarah Baartman District, said the situation is dire. She described the district as one of the poorest in South Africa, with an unemployment rate of 32%. "People have to survive from about R30 per day per family. The breadwinners are sitting at home, without jobs, due to the Covid-19 pandemic," she said.
