Update
CRADOCK NEWS - The murderer of Patricia Orpen (78) is still at large.
Orpen, known as Paddy among friends, was found murdered on the farm Morgenson, about 10km outside Cradock at about 11am on 5 May. Her daughter, Jacqui Murray, made the gruesome discovery.
Orpen had multiple injuries, said the Cradock police spokesperson, Captain Lariane Jonker. The motive for the murder is unknown.
Orpen's vehicle was stolen and set alight at a quarry, near the industrial area of Cradock. Security guards found the burning vehicle at about 1am on Tuesday. Her stolen handbag was also found in the partially burnt bakkie. Jonker did not wish to comment further on the situation, stating that the investigation is at a sensitive stage and no arrests have yet been made.
In 2014, Orpen took over the management of the local SPCA, when it closed its doors. She was known as an animal lover and described by many as someone who would never do anyone harm.
Jonker asked anyone with information that can lead to the arrest of the murder, to contact the investigation officer, Detective Constable Siyabonga Ntsimango at 078 084 9136.
The family did not wish to comment.
