KAROO NEWS - Two people have lost their lives while three others sustained injuries in a head-on collision on the N2 road between Butterworth and Dutywa at Tanga location.

The incident occurred today at around 3:00. A Toyota Corolla with four occupants, travelling from Idutywa direction, collided with an Isuzu mini truck, with two male occupants, from the Butterworth direction.

Two passengers, a male and female, both adults,  from the Corolla were declared dead on the scene. In comparison, the other two passengers, the driver, and one occupant from the truck were all taken to Butterworth Provincial Hospital for treatment. The other occupant of the truck, a passenger, escaped with minor injuries and was treated on the scene.

Unathi Binqose, spokesperson for the Department of Transport in the Eastern Cape, says that It is alleged that speeding and fatigue were the major contributing factors to this incident.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened at Msobomvu Police for further investigations.
