GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Excellent cheetah viewing has presented itself at Samara Private Game Reserve near Graaff-Reinet recently, and a particular highlight for Samara’s management has been witnessing the litter of four cubs, the great-grand-cubs of the famous Sibella, develop their hunting technique.
These 18-month-olds are on the cusp of independence and are spending more and more time away from their mother, working as a team to bring down prey while she assesses their performance from afar.
That's not to say they have completely mastered the fine art of hunting though - mum often has to come in to deliver the killer blow.
Such was the case when a warthog piglet became their unlucky victim, as the accompanying photos demonstrate. In this case however, it wasn't only the cheetah mum that got involved, as the piglet's mother charged onto the scene in a vain attempt to chase the cheetahs off.
These dramatic images below were captured by Samara guests Rob and Brigid Maguire.
