GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A Moggie, a Morgan or even a Morrie, whichever name the Morris Minor affectionally goes by, it is a classic amongst motoring enthusiasts around the world, and in South Africa, that's no different.
As part of its 76th celebrations, the Morris Minor Owners Club (MMOC) of South Africa travelled to Graaff-Reinet this week for their biannual Morris Minor rally.
The Eastern Cape Morris Minor Owners Club played host for the event and decided to bring the Morris enthusiasts to the Jewel of the Karoo.
A total of 85 members from Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, the Western and Eastern Cape and, of course, the Free State, brought 50 of these vintage cars to town. These 50 cars are the pride and joy of their owners.
Every one of them looks as if they'd just left the showroom.
Gerda van der Merwe, from Gauteng, told Graaff-Reinet Advertiser, Morris Minor SA has five provinces or clubs in SA, and every club must have a national rally. "So, the Eastern Cape has decided to host theirs in Graaff-Reinet. For a lot of us, it's our first visit to this beautiful Karoo town and we will be visiting all the sightseeings and old historic buildings and monuments.

"The highlight of this rally is our Concourse competition on Wednesday 16 March at Profcon, where we all are staying. The cars will be judged in the various categories and the winners will be announced on Wednesday evening."
Since 1948 more than 1 million Morris Minors have been built and sold globally.
The last "Minor" made was a Traveller, which came off the production lines in 1971. Today there is a large number of old Minors still running on the roads of the world, kept going by enthusiasts who have at their disposal some of the finest motoring clubs available. The cars themselves are basic and uncomplicated, therefore fairly easy to work on.
The clubs have seen to it that spare parts are available so that these ageing cars keep going. The camaraderie amongst members of the clubs is something very special.
