KAROO NEWS - The Midland Hospital National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) Chairperson, Sindile January, has tested positive for Covid-19.
January received his results this morning (10 July). He decided to go public with his results to warn people about the seriousness of Covid-19.
January, an employee of the hospital, participated in a three-day protest by health workers and other personnel from 27-29 May. On 17 June, he was part of an Eastern Cape Nehawu management delegation inspecting the hospital, East Cape Midland College and Department Social services in Graaff-Reinet, to make sure that they adhere to Covid-19 regulations.
“Allow me to voice out loud that this virus has come even to me. This morning I received a call from the doctor to say that I've tested positive with Covid-19, January said this morning.
He urged that everyone must fight Covid-19 together and said no one invited this virus. “Let us be strong, keep praying and use the medication that can help to fight this pandemic,” January said.
According to him, more personnel are still in isolation, awaiting their test results.
The Advertiser is awaiting comment on precautions that will be put in place at the hospital, following January's test results.
