He recited the history in a poetic and rhetorical voice.
"The reason why we are here - it is because young people stood up and sang for their freedom. As the Nqweba Choir did, they were determined, they wanted change, they were disciplined, they wanted nothing else but the new country where everybody has got an opportunity to live, black and white," he said.
The inspired Grade 12 learners from various schools who attended the occasion listened with attention as he spoke and poetize his voice. "You must be a generation of resilience, a generation of patience but at the same time you must be a generation of what it is that you want to achieve," praised Qoboshiyane.
The Mayor of the Dr Beyers Naudé Municipality, Willem Safers, who also matriculated at Spandau, encouraged the learners to never give up when they fall. "Life does not owe anybody anything but what you put in is what you are going to get, so you must study hard to achieve excellency," said Safers.
The Department of Education Sarah Baartman District Director, Nicolaas de Bruin, said that the learners need to understand and comprehend the importance of such an occasion, as the career exhibition. Learners must never take Life Orientation as a subject for granted, it is where the learners are introduced to some different careers. "At Grade 7 learners must already be able to make the correct subject choices for their career."
The Nqweba Secondary School choir received R3 000 donation from Qoboshiyane to keep them motivated.
