GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A 56-year old man from Sewende Laan, a residential area in Graaff-Reinet was found dead early on Thursday morning after his residence burnt down.
He was identified as Abraham Blaauw who lived in an informal dwelling.
A bystander said when he had discovered something was burning; he called for help and one of the other residents called for the fire department.
He said by the time anyone had noticed the shack burning, it was too late to save Blaauw’s life.
“When I came out of my house, the fire had already destroyed most of his shack and the flames were too big to do anything.”
Nobody knows how the fire had started.
Brigadier Rudolph Adolph, cluster commander for the Graaff-Reinet police said an inquest docket was opened for investigation.
“We are not sure how this happened, but the police will investigate the cause of this unfortunate and fatal incident.”
