SPORT NEWS - Six teams are taking part in a mini-tournament just to give local players some action during the off season.
Club managers and coaches do not want "the fat to get cold" and each weekend a different club organises a tournament on its home ground.
Two weekend's ago the tournament was hosted by Birds United at the Kroonvale soccer field and this past week the newly established Young Lions FC of Kroonvale in Donkerhoek was the proud host, but not proud to play in unfavourable conditions on its field.
The Majestic soccer field's name does not fit the state of the field which is just clay dust with no poles. Young Lions request assistance from authorities or business to assist in football development.
The final on Sunday was won by Real Madrid who beat Birds United 3 - 2 in a very tight match. Both goalkeepers did an excellent job. The first prize was R1000 and the runners-up received R500.
Regional playoffs
Academy Football Club will be representing Graaff-Reinet in the regional soccer plays-offs for a spot in the ABC Motsepe Foundation Leauge, from 6 to 7 May in Grahamstown. "We wish our lads good luck, and a win will certainly boost our region because all the best players in and around Graaff-Reinet will benefit immensely," said Advocate Patrick Sota, of Portugal Birds FC management. Ryan Booysen, coach of Birds United also wish Camdeboo Academy the best in their play-off.
