GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Lt Col Moira Abrahams, visible commander of the Graaff-Reinet police, urges motorists not to leave items of value unattended in their vehicles but to either take it with, leave it at home or lock it in the boot.
According to SAPS they have seen an increase in the number of thefts out of vehicles in public areas. Vehicles are parked on the streets, in secluded areas, day and night and Saps ask that motorists park vehicles in well-lit places.
Many of the targeted motor vehicles do not have alarm systems and some motorists even leave vehicles unlocked.
Areas of concern are Church, Caledon, North and Somerset streets.
Since 1 November, there have also been break-ins at two homes and three businesses in town.
"It's up to us to secure our properties, vehicles and other items of value. The break-ins into cars, residences or businesses happen very quickly, so residents should not think that if they are gone for just a short while that their property is safe," said Colonel Abrahams.
