GRAAFF-REINET NEWS & VIDEOS - Approximately 10 alleged illegal immigrants are under police and medical observation in Graaff-Reinet, after the police pulled over the vehicle they were traveling in outside town en-route to Port Elizabeth.
None of the occupants could give proof of South African passports.
On the scene, the driver of the vehicle told the Advertiser that he is not worried about the coronavirus, as “there are already so many viruses.”
He added that they were not screened anywhere for the virus, “as this [was] not necessary.”
A doctor and nurses were called out to the scene to scan the driver and passengers.
The spokesperson of the Graaff-Reinet SAPS, Captain Bradley Rawlinson, said on scene it is alleged that the occupants are illegally in South Africa, and the police will undertake an investigation.
A tow-truck was called to remove the vehicle to an isolated place, where no one is allowed near it.
According to information received on the scene, the driver and passengers will be taken to hospital for coronavirus testing.
