GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Medical Cannabis – what is it all about?
Wendy Brussow, long-time resident of Graaff-Reinet, has been wondering the same thing over the past few years as the buzz over this apparent ‘miracle cure’ has been growing louder.
“I kept on noticing terms like ‘medical cannabis’ and ‘dagga oil’ being mentioned as possible cures for cancer, as well as other debilitating and life threatening diseases. I was very interested as I had long thought that, if I were diagnosed with cancer, I would definitely not want to go down the chemotherapy or radiotherapy road. So I began to read articles, watch documentaries and generally try to find out what the hype was all about.”
Wendy stresses that she is not in the least interested in cannabis or dagga for recreational purposes, although she is beginning to realise that even such use has been seriously misunderstood over the past century.
“This resulted in it being criminalised all over the world, affecting millions of people. Consider how many have been found guilty of possession and landed up with criminal records or jail terms which have not only severely affected their own lives, but those of their families as well.”
The use of cannabinoids for medicinal purposes is nothing new, however it has been under very strict control and has only been available for certain conditions such as glaucoma and anorexia.
The legislative wheels have been turning for some time now in South Africa regarding the use of cannabinoids as well as other types of treatment that do not fall under the umbrella of pharmaceuticals.
The passing by parliament of new legislation in this regard is expected in the very near future and will open up new options for patients. Many would prefer to be treated with natural remedies rather than pharmaceuticals or medical procedures that can cause damage to the body.
As a result of all she has discovered, Wendy has recently decided to join a company called Cannabis Oil Research as an agent.
As a result of all she has discovered, Wendy has recently decided to join a company called Cannabis Oil Research as an agent.
“On a daily basis people all around us are suffering from terrible diseases that could be cured or greatly alleviated by the correct types of medical cannabinoids. This company is one of the forerunners in the world with regard to the products they are producing. I believe this is a brand new era of healing that we are entering into and I want to be part of it. To be an instrument in helping people to have their bodies healed and restored will be a very exciting and worthwhile field to be in. It will have the effect of bringing psychological healing as well - much needed in this stressed lifestyle we live nowadays!”
In order to enlighten people and prepare them for this new development, Wendy will be offering opportunities to attend a presentation on the topic.
The first of these will be held on Saturday, 25 August at The Old Library Museum in Church Street, Graaff-Reinet.
It will start at 10:30 and the cost to attend will be R100 per person, but she is offering an introductory special - the first 20 tickets sold will include a free ticket for a friend.
Seating is limited so booking a seat is advisable. Wendy can be contacted by calling or messaging her on 072 622 6600 or e-mailing her at wbrussow.medcan@gmail.com.
Small group presentations such is in a home or for an organisation can also be arranged.
