GRAAFF-REINET NUUS - The Pioneers Restaurant and Pub in Parsonage Street recently hosted a ladies' night in support of animal welfare.
Owners Roelien van de Putte and Elmare Fourie donated the funds that were generated through this pleasurable "girls' night out" to the Graaff-Reinet Animal Welfare Society (Graws).
"Graws do so much for the animals in Graaff-Reinet," they said. Carlin Raath, manager of the Graws kennels, would like to extend her gratitude towards Roelien and Elmare.
"Their support has been amazing," said Raath.
Graws is always in need of support as the number of animals in need of care is ever-increasing.
"We remain committed to assisting every animal that comes through our doors. For the past month, we managed to do 12 sterilisations, three mange treatments, three Parvo virus treatments, one Ehrlichia (tick bite fever) treatment, one treatment for cat uterine infection and two treatments for Verminosis (severe worm infestation). We also have three ongoing cancer treatments."
Graws has actively served the community since they took over from the SPCA.
On Mandela Day, Raath travelled to Jeffreys Bay to fetch Diesel, a pit bull that has been surrendered to Graws as his owners can no longer look after him.
"We are honoured that Diesel's family picked Graws out of all the animal rescue societies in the Eastern Cape to look after him until they can take him in again."
Those who would like to support Graws are requested to contact Raath on 072 123 1722.
