GRAAFF-REINET NEWS – Last week, DA Cllr Rudy Jacobs together with Jesa Accommodation, situated in Adendorp, initiated "Operation Clean-up" with Adendorp Primary School in the town.
Pupils from Grade 3 to Grade 7 participated in this project.
They were sent into the streets bordering the school with black bags and attempted to pick up the rubbish in these streets. Cllr Jacobs and Janine, a representative of Jesa Accommodation, also joined the pupils in the effort.
Manned with garbage bags anything from chips packets to plastic cool drink holders and cool drink tins were trashed!
The excited pupils split up into groups and filled several bags with rubbish that they picked up along the way. They were keen to participate, and the project was very successful with a remarkable difference in the surrounding streets after completion.
They were so anxious to see whose bag could be filled first that it became quite a competitive exercise!

A small donation was handed over to Mrs Jack, Principal of Adendorp Primary school, by Jesa Accommodation, to thank her and the pupils for their willingness to participate in this project. The black bags were also sponsored by Jesa Accommodation.
Cllr Rudy Jacobs was very pleased with the outcome of the day and thanked the pupils for their participation in the event. He also encouraged them to keep their schoolyard and surrounding streets clean and free of rubbish. He emphasised that they need to be proud of their school and surroundings and be proud of what they have.
Cllr Jacobs also informed the learners that it will become a quarterly project and they were very enthusiastic about the prospect of participating in this venture on a regular basis.
Ferdie Smith, the owner of Jesa Accommodation, has also undertaken to attend to upgrading the school's name board which reflects the school emblem and to supply the garbage bags for the future cleaning ventures.
On a sadder note, Cllr Jacobs and the Jesa staff found it heart-breaking to see the current state of the buildings and bathrooms of the school.
It educates some 130 pupils ranging from Grade 1 to Grade 7, and the staff would be grateful for any donations towards repairing the current state of the buildings, especially the toilets. Any person interested in making a contribution can contact either Mrs Jack at the school or Cllr Jacobs in this regard.
