Interschools fills town with energy

GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The excitement of the past week leading up to the inter-school event between Union High, the host school for 2023, and Hoër Volkskool, was palpable throughout the town.

Everywhere you went, you could feel the youthful energy in the air.

Decades of school traditions were revived by the students during the week, and it was clear that a strong spirit of sportsmanship prevailed.

The rivalry between the two schools was undoubtedly one that the entire town had been eagerly anticipating. The news that Union High emerged as the overall winner of Interschools 2023 was announced on Monday morning. Union achieved an impressive 52 points, while Volkskool earned 46 points.

Hoër Volkskool

Henriëtte Malan, waarnemende hoof van Hoër Volkskool het die Volkskool-familie, alumni, ouers, leerders en vriende van die skool bedank.

"Sonder jul ondersteuning, wat duidelik sigbaar was tydens die afgelope naweek se interskole-byeenkoms, sou ons skool nie die hoogtes kon bereik wat ons behaal het nie. Hierdie geleentheid was weereens 'n hoogtepunt op ons jaarlikse kalender. Volkskool is baie trots op ons leerlinge se goeie uitslae. Ons vier ons oorwinnings en leer uit ons mislukkings.

Baie geluk Union met jul algehele wen. Baie dankie ook vir al jul reëlings tydens die afgelope interskole. Ons sien reeds uit na volgende jaar!"

Union High

William Pringle, headmaster of Union High said Union is grateful to congratulate their learners on an Interschools well-fought. "As is always the case, there is no easily won Interschools between Union and Volkskool. Well done to all those whose efforts this past week contributed to the overall point tally, to secure Union the title of Interschools victors 2023.

This being said, I would also like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Volkskool for their outstanding performance throughout the event. It was truly a memorable competition, highlighting the talent and determination of both schools, and, as always, the camaraderie and friendly rivalry we witnessed between our two institutions truly exemplified the spirit of Interschools."
