MURRAYSBURG NEWS — Protesters in Murraysburg are fuming with rage as the Beaufort West Municipality has still not responded to the community’s plea for service delivery.
On Wednesday afternoon, protesters gathered in front of the police station in an attempt to have friends and family arrested by the police, released.
About seven protesters were arrested.
Media enquiries to the Murraysburg police were dismissed by the police spokesperson.
The ward councillor for Ward 1 in Murraysburg, October Haarvoor said it has been an unfortunate turn of events.
Harvoor said the protest spun out of hand when a municipal employee stabbed some of the protesters with a knife.
The Graaff-Reinet Advertiser learned among protesters that the alleged stabber was released from police custody, but police however refused to comment.
A video clip circulating on social media shows how things went sour for the protesters.

Haarvoor said the community is angry at the Beaufort West Municipality for ignoring their pleas.
He said he requested meetings with the speaker, Michael Motswane, who apparently said the issues in Murraysburg were not valid.
“The speaker said our concerns are too vague,” said Harvoor.
He said if the municipal council had listened to the community, “things could have been dealt with differently.”
The spokesperson for the Beaufort West Municipality, Marlene Hendricks earlier denied claims of a lack of service delivery in Murraysburg.
