GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - DA councillors Joy Williams and Izak van Zyl, with the support of DA activist Rienie Gouws, assisted more than 50 indigent individuals with their IGG applications at the Alex Laing Hall in Kroonvale on Thursday, 18 May.
According to Williams, this was in response to the municipality's publication of their intention to implement a 100% block on the purchase of prepaid electricity on all arrear rates, services, and water accounts.
She said they will be assisting with applications on a regular basis in time to come since many residents with arrears who are eligible for the IGG subsidy have difficulty applying for, or renewing, their subsidies.
“Many residents cannot walk to town, and they do not have the money to take a taxi. Some do not even have money to certify their documents,” explains Williams.
For this reason, the trio decided to take this critically important service to the community. They were accompanied by an IGG consultant and SAPS who assisted with the affidavits and certification of documentation necessary to start the application process.
The Graaff-Reinet Advertiser will inform residents of the next date for assistance with IGG applications and renewals.
