GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - The Holy Pentecost Apostolic Church in Zion hosted an event for women from various congregations in Graaff-Reinet. The theme of the event was “Surviving the Pruning Season” and focused on how women can overcome everyday challenges at home, at work, and in the community.
Guest speakers Jessica Maarman from the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Patricia Volontiva from the Community Police Forum (CPF) addressed the issue of Gender Based Violence (GBV) and emphasized the importance of a working relationship between the police and the community.
They advised women on how to raise responsible children and explained the rehabilitation process of children and adults in conflict with the law.
They also focused on how women can take control of their personal development. In this regard Cebokazi Vuthu from the Department of Social Development shared information on skills programmes for women that will contribute to their financial independence. This, in turn, will reduce the likelihood of abuse as a significant proportion of women remain trapped in an abusive relationship due to financial dependence.
Amanda Arries Pietersen explains that the event was also aimed at celebrating women. “The role of women in the church, at home, in the workplace and the community is something that needs to be appreciated as it often goes unseen.”
Women from thirteen local congregations – Church of Christ, Free Ethiopian Church, St. Phillips Church, African Gospel Mission, Pentecostal Church, Old Apostolic Church, Dutch Reformed Church, Ethiopian in Zion Church, Luzipho Congregation, Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa (UPCSA), Hoop van Christus, and Eagle Eye Revival – attended the event.
Women from various local congregations attended the Women’s Day event hosted by the Holy Pentecost Apostolic Church in Zion.
