GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Hoër Volkskool will receive an official letter from Parliament congratulating the school on its centenary and wishing the principal, staff and learners continued success.
This follows after DA MP and Dr Beyers Naudé Constituency Leader, Samantha Graham-Maré tabled a motion on Tuesday 22 November that National Assembly recognises and congratulates Hoër Volkskool on the school's centenary.
On behalf of the DA, Graham-Maré asked National Assembly to note that Hoër Volkskool recently celebrated its centenary and that the school has a rich history. Hoër Volkskool was established as the first Afrikaans-medium school in the then Kaapland in response to the growing number of Afrikaans-speaking residents in the town and surrounds.
She also moved National Assembly to:
- note that Hoër Volkskool boasted a 98,3% matric pass rate for 2021 with 38 subject A's and 65% of learners who qualified for bachelor's degree admission;
- acknowledge that Hoër Volkskool has a strong sport tradition and that 20 boys and girls attained provincial colours while one also received national colours – the achievements were for rugby, cricket, golf, swimming, archery, and shooting; and
- recognise that Hoër Volkskool also encourages a balanced learning experience with cultural activities such as debating, choir and chess on offer.
Finally, Graham-Maré moved the National Assembly to wish the principal, staff and learners continued success. The motion passed without any objections.
