NIEU-BETHESDA NEWS - Thirty motorcycles, 13 with sidecars, have explored the gravel roads of the Nieu-Bethesda district to raise money for the Bible Society of South Africa.
Fifty motorcycle sidecar riders, bikers, passengers and their supporting teams, visited Nieu-Bethesda, surrounding farms and historical sites last weekend.
What made the 'Biblical tour' so special, is that most of the sidecars were original Ural sidecars of Russian origin, and used by the Russians at one time for defensive mobility.
On Friday 28 February the group took the Compassberg to Richmond route and back to Nieu-Bethesda, exploring 200km of gravel road. The next day they again completed 200km via the Erasmuskloof route. The weekend ended with a scrumptious breakfast at the Nieu-Bethesda Sports Club on Sunday.

Ben Fourie, organising secretary of the bible society, also participated in the weekend's rally, following the bikes in a bakkie.
Fourie said they are raising funds to distribute two million Bibles across South Africa, within two years.
"People won't believe the need for Bibles out there," Fourie said.
