GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Retired nurse turned community worker, Thandeka Majoka, is encouraging more and more locals to plant their own vegetables. Majoka started a vegetable project two years ago and today many residents take great pleasure in growing, harvesting and enjoying their own greens.
Majoka created a non profit organisation, the Lithalethu Food Gardening Project, and hope to see more residents inspired by the project.
She says it creates job opportunities, feeds the elderly, children and numerous families.
This project has grown exponentially and at the moment there are 50 food gardens in Umasizakhe.
Majoka has since joined forces with other community members and says growing vegetables in Umasizakhe is also growing hope and good nutrition in the community.
