GRAAFF-REINET NUUS -The Camdeboo Sterilisation Initiative (CSI) was blessed to receive a donation of a dog trailer this past week.
This had been a long-time dream of Erma Voigt from Graaff-Reinet and Victoria Nance of Nieu-Bethesda who have been carting in dogs from the village to vets in Graaff-Reinet to have them sterilised, and back again to Nieu Bethesda.
Despite being able to fit only so many dogs and cats into her private vehicle, Victoria managed to transport a whopping 200 animals during 2017 and 2018 for sterilisation. This does not including trips transporting many sick and injured as well to get them the necessary care in Graaff-Reinet.
A second-hand dog trailer was sourced on Gumtree from a dealership in Gauteng. The trailer was bought for CSI and paid for by Josie Cohen from Cape Town, a long-time supporter of CSI.
It needed some touch up work and was re-sprayed, kindly sponsored by Lorraine du Plessis from Johannesburg. Lorraine is the CEO of award-winning Graphic Design Company Studio 5 in Parkwood Johannesburg, who also designed the new branding and sponsored all the cost thereof.
CSI expressed how blessed they are to have the support of so many kind-hearted people from all over the country.
Lorraine du Plessis is herself the happy owner of three rescue dogs from the Karoo.
They also extend a word of thanks to JP Meintjes who kindly transported the trailer from Johannesburg to Nieu-Bethesda, after especially making a trip from Pretoria to fetch it in Jo'burg.
Apart from the practical aspect of allowing even more animals to be transported safely during a trip, CSI hopes that the branding will also spread the much-needed message to spay, neuter and adopt.
