KAROO NEWS - The wildlife in the Camdeboo National Park is relaxed and seems to come out of hiding with people under lockdown.
"It's amazing to see what humans can do to take away the freedom from the game. The wildlife seems relaxed because of nearly no human or traffic movement," said Camdeboo National Park Manager, Mzwandile Mjadu.
An animal count that was scheduled for 16 April in the national park was postponed until the end of the lockdown, as personnel from other parks have to come and assist Mjadu and his team.
The last count was done in 2018, showing huge amounts of kudu (498), springbok (443), red hartebeest (423), blesbok (379), eland (314) and mountain zebra (308).
Black wildebeest (143) and ostrich (177) showed a presence of more than 100 per specie. The count showed 68 buffalo and 95 gemsbok. There were 11 baboon troops observed.
Under endangered species, only one black eagle was counted.
