GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - It was with high expectations that the doors of St James' Church in Graaff-Reinet were opened last Friday morning to welcome visitors to the 2019 Flower Festival.
The church was aglow with a plethora of colours in flower arrangements, ranging in size.
"I was in tears when I walked into the church," said visitor Hanli Rose-Innes. "It was all so beautiful the emotions just welled up. Everyone who entered that church today was surely blessed."
The flower arrangements were displayed on planks of wood placed across the tops of pews at various angles and draped with beautiful lace and embroidered cloths, generously loaned by parishioners and friends of the parish. Inspirational sayings, verses of poetry and prose complemented the arrangements.
A striking display of bonsai trees, belonging to Trevor Kingwill, added interest while the porch was adorned with artwork provided by learners from Union High School.
The annual St James Flower Festival did not disappoint.
During the day, the strains of beautiful organ and piano music could be heard, enhancing the ambiance.
"It was a most uplifting day, pointing again to God's great provision and our need to constantly give thanks in all circumstances, and at all times," said organiser Moyra Marais.
Visitors showed appreciation for the displays, particularly in the midst of the ongoing drought.
The organisers thanked all who gave of their time and talent to make this such a positive event, especially the members of the community who brought along arrangements and flowers.
