GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Union Preparatory School (UPS) in Graaff-Reinet recently held their second annual 'Cupcakes for Kids with Cancer' Party of Hope.
Alex Short (8) a Grade 2 learner at UPS, was diagnosed with Nephroblastoma (Wilms Tumor) when she was only 5-years-old. After receiving 12 gruelling chemo sessions as well as radiation, she has now been in remission for the past two years and loves life.
In honour of the occasion, the learners and teachers all wore yellow/gold for childhood cancer awareness and bought delicious bright yellow cupcakes.
A total of 700 cupcakes were baked and donated by a group of Prep School moms.
The school is grateful for the support of Montego Pet Nutrition, Karoo Taxidermy, GBG and Union High School Interact, who placed substantial orders.
R9 940 was raised this year and will be forwarded to the Cupcakes of Hope non-profit organisation.
Liz Savage also brought Mr Sun along to the school's Assembly on that day, so that the Preppies could learn how to avoid damage to their skins this summer.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to Janine Short for organising the day.
