GRAAFF-REINET SPORTS NEWS - Not only did Graaff-Reinet teams win the Midland Fours competition for men and women on 22 and 23 July, but Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club will feature the EP Fours Final this coming weekend on 29 and 30 July.
The results are as follows:
- Midlands Fours - ladies
Six teams took part on a round-robin basis, having to play five 16-end games. After three games on Saturday 22 July, The Graaff-Reinet team Sonja Matthee, Helene de Wet, Riana du Toit and Charlene Colyn led the way on six game points and +43 shots. Second place was held by Rina Kleynhans and her team from Somerset East on 4 +20.
After another two games on Sunday, Matthee's team secured the title on eight-game points and 62 shots, with Kleynhans and company on 8 +25 shots finishing second.
- Midlands Fours - men
Eight teams, participating in two sections, played in three 21-end games, with the winners of each section playing in the final.
The section leaders after two games on Saturday were:
- Section 1 - Arthur Langley on 4 +26 and
- Section 2 - Johan van Onselen on 4 +14.
Both section leaders won their last section game on Sunday and with only two shots separating the scores, a close final seemed to be on the cards. However, the Langley combination of Deon Matthee, Hansie Jordaan and Niel Colyn had too many guns for the Middelburg bowlers and at 24 - 11 (with one end left to play) the Middelburgers conceded the game.
EP Fours finals
The EP Fours Final this Saturday and Sunday, will feature 16 top-class teams. Spectators are invited to visit the Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club to watch the bowlers in action.
Hansie Jordaan, Niel Colyn, Deon Matthee and Arthur Langley received the Johan Matthyse shield from Jaco Meyer on winning the Midland Fours.
