GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Peter Harry Murray who grew up on the Graaff-Reinet farm Roode Bloem died on 17 April.
He was born on 23 January 1940.
Peter attended Union High School and the Diocesan College in Cape Town.
He was an outstanding athlete and rugby player moving through the age groups and captaining the 1st XV in 1958.
After school he played for the Graaff-Reinet Cradock Rovers, Eastern Province u.19, Eastern Province first as well as North Eastern Cape.
He was a very good farmer and an excellent stockman with a great love for the Karoo, farming on the family farm, Oulton in Murraysburg, and the family farm Zuurfontein in Cradock.
He sold this farm and bought Rygerspoort also in Cradock. Peter and his son Mike have built this into one of the most prestigious game farms in the country.
Peter married Penny Rubidge of Wellwood on 13 April 1963 and they celebrated their 56th Wedding Anniversary on Rygerspoort.
He is survived by his wife, Penny, daughter Annlee and son Michael, married to Helen and their two children, lzi and Max.
The funeral was held on the farm under the Oak tree that Peter planted some 60 years ago.
His younger brother Keith conducted the funeral service with a huge crowd from all over the Karoo.
