GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - A multidisciplinary police team arrested eight suspects last weekend as part of its war on drugs. Operation Sikhona, from 18:00 on Friday 17 February, until 02:00 on Saturday, saw various drugs and illegal alcohol confiscated.
Col Priscilla Naidu, spokesperson of the Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape, said two suspects were arrested for dealing in drugs - one (26) in Thembalesizwe for dealing in crystal meth (tik) and one (50) in Lotusville for dealing in tik and dagga.
At this location, police also confiscated a scale and cash.
Another suspect (36) was arrested in Lotusville for possession of Mandrax and tik. In Skosana street in Thembalesizwe, a 23-year-old person was fined R1 000 for contravening the Liquor Act. Police confiscated and destroyed 40 litres of illegal homemade beer.
Another four arrests were for drunk and disorderly behaviour.
The team comprised officials from Crime Intelligence Gathering (CIG) Graaff-Reinet, Aberdeen Vispol, Klipplaat Vispol and the Operational Command Centre (OCC) Graaff-Reinet.
Four search warrants for certain identified houses were obtained prior to the operation.
The operation was planned and executed with great appreciation for the role played by the OCC of Graaff-Reinet.
