GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Despite written enquiries related to the misappropriation of funds and maladministration, the Dr Beyers Naude Municipality in Graaff-Reinet continues to withhold response to the allegations.
The municipality confirmed spending over R12.7 million recently towards salary adjustments without council’s approval.
Further enquiries on this lavish spending were also ignored by the municipality.
The municipality may also find itself in a legal battle with an advertising and branding specialist.
This comes after the Dr Beyers Naudé Municipality awarded a tender for rebranding to a company that quoted for R770 000, despite the lowest tender application of R280 000 exclusive of VAT.
Buzz Projects were denied this tender regardless of being BEE-compliant. The owner of the company, Gerrit van Wyk said he is not upset that he wasn’t awarded the tender. “I merely wanted to know why the municipality paid half-a-million more to another company.”
To this end, the municipality clearly said that it would not respond to this enquiry.
Acting spokesperson Edwardine Abader said she was advised the municipality cannot comment on the matter.
The Advertiser requested to schedule a meeting with the municipal manager Dr Eddie Rankwana on 24 July, but his office has not been forthcoming to communicate his diary.
