ABERDEEN NEWS - Aberdeen resident, Fred Jantjies surprised his local football club, Destroyers, with a much-needed donation of football gear on 29 June.
The donation came on the back of a dazzling performance by the under 13-team on 16 June in the Samara Tournament in Graaff-Reinet.
The young Destroyers team, who has never before taken part in a tournament, played against far more experienced teams from the greater Dr Beyers Naudé area, and achieved a fabulous third spot in the tournament.
The club and their supporters are thrilled with their bronze medal and prize of three balls.
"With our youngsters performing this well, management reached out to local businesses in a plea for support. Fred responded to our desperate call," says George Yalolo of the Destroyers management team.
"Apart from talent and lots of practice, we have very little to work with and we appeal to all and sundry, especially local businesses, to assist us in our quest to help the local youth. They are children with limited entertainment options, but football provides them with structure, exercise, discipline, purpose and hope."
Handing over the gear, Jantjies said he felt honoured to lend a hand. "In helping the club's children, we are building the future. We should all help our children to have structured lives filled with hope."
He asked the players to be disciplined, focused and to follow the guidance of their coach and management.
