GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Unhappy residents of the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality will have to wait for their grievances about tariff and municipal salary increases to be heard, as Mayor Deon de Vos is unable to receive their petition at this time.
According to a statement by Graaff-Reinet Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association this morning (3 August), De Vos is unable to receive the petition, which has over 3 600 supporters, until Municipal Manager Edward Rankwana is out of self-isolation.
“[The mayor] could not give the organisers a date,” the statement read. In total, 3 688 supported the petition, which demands the high tariff increases to be reconsidered.
The petition was organised by the Ratepayers’ Association, Umasizakhe Water Crisis Committee and Graaff-Reinet Action Committee.
