GRAAFF-REINET NEWS - Today's election of mayor and chief whip for the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality resulted in another 12/12 deadlock.
The DA nominated DA Cllr Ewald Loock as mayor and EFF Cllr Tracey Plaatjies as chief whip.
ANC Cllrs Willem Safers and Thembekile Spogter were nominated as mayor and chief whip by the ANC.
According to Cllr Loock the power-sharing agreement offered by the DA was turned down by the ANC.
Unless there is an intervention by the MEC of CoGTA, another meeting will be reconvened to elect a mayor and whip of council.
