KAROO NEWS - In the last six days, there has been a huge spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in Jansenville.
According to statistics published by the Sarah Baartman District (SBD) health department for 10 July, there are now 26 confirmed cases in the town, compared to only four on 4 July. Of these, 22 are still active, and four have recovered.
The picture over the whole SBD shows a steady increase of approximately 500 every three days.
Twelve more deaths have been recorded in the last six days. On 10 July, there were 2 551 confirmed cases, with 55 deaths.
Within the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality, the number of cases has risen by 103 to 229 over the six-day period, but there have been no more deaths.
The number of cases in Graaff-Reinet has more than doubled, from 72 on 4 July to 146 on 10 July. This town has recorded the only six deaths in the municipality.
Willowmore has recorded six more cases, with 29 of the 35 cases having recovered. Aberdeen has now had 18 cases, all but two of which have recovered.
There have been no more cases in Klipplaat (two to date), Rietbron or Steyterville, each of which have only had one recorded case of the virus.
